Gosainkunda Lake trek, 4380 m, is one of the short and easy trekking routes in the Langtang region of Nepal. Gosainkunda Lake is a holy lake located in Langtang region of Nepal. This can be categorized as a short, easy and scenic trek situated near Kathmandu. Since the path is easily accessible and close to Kathmandu, it is very popular with trekkers. The route takes you north of the Kathmandu Valley to one of the most sacred Hindu lakes, Gosainkunda Lake.
In addition, there are several lakes in this region, among which Gosainkunda Lake, Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda are the three main lakes. You can also enjoy fantastic views of the Ganesh Himal Range (7,429m), the Manaslu Range (8,156 m), Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) and many Tibetan peaks. The entire Langtang region is both beautiful and culturally rich.
Mainly people from Tamang communities live here who are strongly influenced by Tibetan customs. You will get to know the tradition, culture and way of life of the locals. The trail includes lush fir, rhododendron and pine forests as well as lush flora and fauna. The preserved natural beauty, the divinity in the air and the remoteness of the region have made Gosainkunda Lake trek even more adventurous. This is a perfect package for those who have little time and want to experience the beautiful landscapes of the Himalayas.
Gosainkunda Lake trek is relatively easier than other treks like Everest Base Camp trek or Annapurna Base Camp trek. The likelihood of altitude sickness is also very low compared to other hikes, as the altitude gradually increases every day.
Morning wake-up and breakfast in hotel.
Our guide will meet you in your hotel and brief you about the upcoming Gosainkunda lake trekking. He will guide you through all the formalities and necessary paper-works required for the trekking.
After that, we then do a Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley of famous UNESCO world heritage sites like Boudhanath, one of the largest Stupas in the world; Swayambhunath, a famous monkey temple and Pashupatinath, a sacred Hindu temple complex. Apart from Sightseeing, we also get TIMS card and permits for our trekking on this day. In the evening, we do initial preparation for the trekking.
Overnight at Hotel.
We wake up early in the morning and take our breakfast in the hotel. To start our journey to the Gosainkunda lake we drive to Dunche. The route winds along the Trishuli River and encounters forests, terraced fields and rivers. We take our lunch on our way.
Overnight at Guesthouse.
To start our hike we start our day early morning with a hot breakfast and drive to Thulo Bharkhu, from where our trekking starts. We climb the stone stairs to the village of Tamang, where we rest for a while and learn about lifestyle of the local people. The path then climbs to a ridge that leads past pine and rhododendron forests and reaches Thulo Sybru.

The path leads past rhododendron, oak and fir forests through Dursagang and Foprang Danda. In several places you have a panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountains, which include Langtang, Ganesh, Annapurna and some Tibetan peaks. It’s a five-hour hike to Chandanbari, where you can explore the local cheese factory and Sing Gompa Monastery nearby.

A simple walk takes us to Lauribinayak, from where a gradual climb leads to Gosaikunda. The entrance is marked by choirs and small Shiva temples. From here you can enjoy excellent views of Ganesh, Annapurna and other Tibetan mountain ranges. The holy lake of Gosaikunda is in the immediate vicinity. Mountains and lakes for a picturesque view around the place.

We take the same route through Lauribinayak to Chandanbari to Dunche. It’s a pretty long downhill hike through pine forests that changes slowly as we lose altitude. Scenic views accompany us on this hasty but easy descent to Dunche.
Overnight at teahouse.
After a delicious breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu, through the narrow ridges and the dusty road, the dense forest, the rustic village and the terraced farmland. The trip gives us the opportunity to enjoy the quiet surroundings, the green vegetation and the picturesque mountain ranges. After 6 – 7 hours of driving we reach Kathmandu in the late afternoon. Enjoy the evening or night life in the capital or rest and check your luggage for tomorrow’s departure.
