Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek offers a classic adventure north of Kathmandu. It is an extension of our Langtang Valley Trek and turns into a real wilderness adventure. Camping is mandatory for three nights.
On a clear day, the scene from the summit of Ganja La (5106 m) offers an incomparable view of the 150 km long Himalayan panorama, which extends from the 8000 m high Annapurna Mountains in the far west to Langtang Lirung (7227 m) in the “foreground”, Shisha Pangma (8013 m) in the north in Tibet and further east in Langpogang (6733 m) or Jugal Himal (6535 m) and a view to the south of Naya Kanga (5846 m).
Get on a bus early in the morning at the central bus station in Kathmandu and the adventure begins with a scenic drive of 7 to 8 hours and 142 kilometers through typical Nepalese villages, countless rows of carefully maintained terraces and dramatic mountain and valley views. These friendly people will help you immerse yourself in their culture and traditions.
The path gradually rises along the Langtang Khola and leads through forests of bamboo, maple, oak and pine. Langurs, musk deer, bears and the endangered, shy, red panda live in these forests. Birds can be heard all the time, rarely seen in Ganja La Pass Trek Nepal. Our Ganja La Pass trekking offers new sights and experiences as you gradually climb many ridges to the village of Kyanjin Gompa – and a free day to explore the Ganja La Pass region.
Go slowly from Kyanjin Gompa to Ngegang and climb 4,000 m. Then rest in your tent before tackling the 1,000 m ascent to Ganja La (5,106 m) and descending 800 m to sleep “deeply” again. Ganja La Pass Downhill Trekking Route Tarkeghyang is the first Sherpa town. It means “100 houses”. In 1727, a llama founded a monastery and asked to build 100 houses as a reward. The temple was rebuilt in 1969 in the Bhutanese style.
Enjoy the hospitality of these friendly people. The path then leads along the hills through Sherpa settlements decorated with prayer flags, to the road to Melamchi and by bus back to Kathmandu.
