Airport in Kathmandu

How to Survive Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu?

Once you have safely landed in Tribhuvan international airport you will notice the difference to other international airports around the world. Here are some tips that will help you on your arrival.

Kathmandu international airport is small and chaotic, so please have some patience. It might take you some time to figure out how everything works out here. After your landing, a shuttle bus will take you to the entrance gate. From that point, it takes you few minutes to reach the immigration hall. Please follow the crowd to the hall.

At the hall you will need to fill in a form (available in English language) with your personal details.

Tip: Most airlines provide an immigration arrival form on the airplane. Fill up the form before your arrival to avoid hassle and save time. This is NOT a visa form! Even if you have a visa you are required to complete this form. You will find visa forms inside the airport.

After filling the form, head to one of the queues for passport control and Visa approval. Please take note of the queues (Nepali passport holders / foreigners with Visa / foreigners without Visa).
Nationals of the following countries need to apply for a visa before coming to Nepal: Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria and refugees with travel documents.
Nationals from countries other than those listed above can obtain a ‘Visa on arrival’.
India and Chinese nationals don’t need a visa to travel to Nepal.
Indian citizens can travel to Nepal with a valid ID card (citizenship, driver’s lisence etc.), passport is not necessary.

On Arrival Visa Fee

15 days30 USD
30 days50 USD
90 days125 USD

Note: Please check the Nepal Immigration Website before leaving home in case of changes. Please bring a recent passport sized photograph and change in USD, Euros or Pounds. Tourists are entitled to stay for a period of no more than 150 days in a calendar year.

Once you have passed through immigration and stepped into the country you will be wondering where to go next – it is not well signposted. But basically, turn right and head down the escalator to the baggage claim hall. Again, it is chaotic there and you may have to wait a long time to get your luggage. Patience is necessary here also.

Once you have claimed your luggage, please look for an exit symbol to find the exit way (or simply follow the crowd).

Note: Trolleys are free of charge. Some men in tattered coats may approach you and offer their help to push your trolley. They will charge you a hefty fee once you are outside. Therefore, please avoid them.

Once you are out of the airport, we will take care of everything from here. One of our representatives awaits you with your name at the gate. He will take you to your hotel and take care of all your necessities.

For your personal expenses, you will need to exchange the foreign currencies to Nepalese rupees. Please don’t change them at the airport as they offer poor exchange rate. You can ask my colleague to take you to a good exchange center.

Also please note my mobile number in your phone directory 00977 9841784192. If you have any problem with the hotel or staffs or need anything, then please give me a quick message or a call. I will personally act upon that immediately.
